|Dr. Simeons' protocol for the HCG Diet requires an intramuscular injection of 125 IU's of HCG. There are some doctors who prefer to administer subcutaneous injections because they are a bit less painful. However, then they may require a slightly higher dosage which would be closer to 200 IU's. There are others who may be turned off by the idea of needles altogether and have tried sub-lingual applications which require much higher dosages and may not be as effective.|
Dr. Simions' 43 day HCG protocol consists of 40 consecutive days of injections, combined with strict adherence to a very low calorie diet of only 500 calories per day, of a very specific combination of foods, followed by three additional days of the very low calorie diet, after the injections have been completed.
If your weight loss goal is 15 pounds or less, you can achieve it with a 23 day protocol, for which only one 5000 IU ampule will be needed. You will need two 5000 IU ampules to complete the 40 day protocol set forth by Dr. Simeons. It should be noted that one should never exceed 40 days of injections because prolonged use can lead to HCG immunity. If one wishes to repeat the 40 day protocol to lose a larger amount of weight then one must wait at least six weeks before beginning the injections again.
To ensure the potency of the HCG for the entire 43 day regimen, only mix one 5000 ampule at a time. Then, after 23 days, discard the first ampule and mix another one in a second vial for the remainder of the treatment. If exposure to light this will cause a deterioration of the HCG potency. Also, if you're purchasing your supplies yourself, choose a dark/amber glass vial or (with a clear glass vial) wrap it in aluminum foil or store it in an opaque container to preserve it. Do not freeze the HCG because this may also affect its potency.
The HCG needs to be mixed and activated with injectable Bacteriostatic Water, and then the activated HCG must be transferred to a new vial. You may possibly need to purchase the bacteriostatic water separately, as the HCG powder is often sold with an insufficient amount of liquid solvent. If this occurs, you should not mix the solvent sold with the HCG with the bacteriostatic water you purchase separately. Just discard the liquid solvent sold with the HCG powder and use only the Bacteriostatic Water.
How to Calculate the Injection Dosages
According to Dr. Simeons, the HCG Diet Protocol calls for daily doses of 125 IU's. Other sources have suggested higher concentrations, particularly for higher weight loss goals, but generally 125 IUs is considered the minimum dosage and 200 IUs is the maximum.
For a 1ml or 1cc HCG Injection, fill the syringe with the HCG to the 100 unit mark (1cc) on the syringe.
Using a 5000 IU ampule and a 1cc syringe, you can mix your HCG as follows:
IU TOTAL # Injections Total Bac Water Syringe Amount
125 IU 40 40ml/cc 1ml/cc (100 units)
150 IU 33 33ml/cc 1ml/cc (100 units)
200 IU 25 25ml/cc 1cc/cc (100 units)
For a .5ml dose injection, fill the syringe with the HCG mixture to the
100 unit mark on the syringe.
IU TOTAL # Injections Total Bac Water Syringe Amount
125 IU 40 20ml/cc .5ml/cc (50 units)
150 IU 33 16.5ml/cc .5ml/cc (50 units)
200 IU 25 12.5ml/cc .5ml/cc (50 units)
How to Mix HCG
First, wash your hands and put all of the unopened supplies on a clean paper towel. Then, clean the ampule, the top of the Bac Water vial, as well as the top of the new sterile empty vial with an alcohol prep pad.
Score the ampule with an ampule cutter and carefully snap it away from you. Be careful not to crush the ampule by squeezing it too tightly. If you're not using an ampule cutter, be sure to wrap an alcohol prep pad or tissue around the neck of the ampule to protect your hands from the breaking glass. THIS IS IMPORTANT: You must hold the ampule at an angle to be sure no shards of glass can fall into the HCG!
Once you open a needle cap, be sure the needle does not touch any non-sterile surfaces. If it does, you must replace the needle.
Next, open the syringe and attach the needle. Remove the cap and draw the required amount of Bac Water into the syringe. If the amount of Bac Water you need exceeds the capacity of your syringe you will need to do this more than once.
How to Inject HCG
For best results, you should take your injections at the same time each day, preferably first thing in the morning. First wash your hands with antibacterial soap. A safe place to inject is in the middle of the thigh. Please note, an untrained person should avoid injecting into the buttocks to avoid accidentally hitting the sciatic nerve. Also, do not inject into the stomach muscle.
Subcutaneous injections can be made just under the skin, and almost anywhere on the body, but Dr. Simionm recommends an intramuscular injection, even though a bit more painful, because the HCG is more readily absorbed with this method. However, it does require a slightly longer needle (1"-1.5") to inject deep into the muscle tissue.
You should use at least a 25 gauge needle for the injections. Note: The higher the gauge, the thinner and less painful the needle. Needles should be disposed of in a safe manner in puncture resistant containers called "sharps". Or, if you don't have sharps you can dispose of needles in heavy duty containers such as empty bleach bottles. Needles and syringes should never be reused.
Before you fill the syringe for an injection, pull the plunger back several times to let out the air and loosen the plunger so it moves smoothly. Then put the empty syringe into the clean vial (pushing the air from the syringe into the vial) and pull the plunger on the empty syringe to the designated Unit Mark to fill it with the desired amount of HCG. Tap the syringe gently to remove any air bubbles before you inject the HCG.
Once the injection site has been chosen, clean the area with an alcohol prep pad. First allow the area to air dry and do not contaminate the area by blowing on it to dry it more quickly. For a less painful injection, place your thumb and index finger on either side of the swabbed area and pull the skin taught. Continue holding the skin taught while you inject the entire length of the needle. Do not touch the needle itself which will render it contaminated. Finally, cover the injection site with a cotton ball using mild pressure to avoid any bleeding or dripping of solution. Don't forget to wash your hands again after you have disposed of all the syringes and needles.
When there are subsequent injections, it is necessary to alternate legs to avoid using the same injection site. If there is bruising from previous injections, it is important to make your injections half an inch or more from the bruise.
For a subcutaneous injection: Choose the injection site, then pinch the area with your thumb and forefinger and quickly and smoothly insert the needle at a 45 degree angle into the subcutaneous fat layer. Next, pull back on the syringe and make sure no blood is drawn and also to be sure you haven't hit a blood vessel. If you draw blood into the syringe because you hit a blood vessel, remove the needle and try again with a fresh one.
