The following are the HCG Diet Facts:

-A vegetarian or vegan CAN still participate in the hCG diet protocol.  Although it is not ideal, you can substitute fat free cottage cheese or eggwhites (4 eggwhites to one yolk) for lean meat. Due to the sugar content in dairy products, weight loss will probably be less than it would if you were eating meat. If you are a vegan there is a vegan pea protein powder available.

If you are lactose intolerant, you can still complete the HCG Program because chicken breast and very lean beef are preferable to dairy products, and eggs, the ratio of whites to yolk as mentioned above, can be used as well.

The diet protocol does not recommend tap water because tap water often contains chlorine, which can affect the thyroid.

Salt is permitted on the diet and there is no limitation or restriction on salt intake. However, an increased consumption of salt is one of the biggest causes of weight fluctuation and inconsistancy due to water retention.

Is it extremely important to gorge for the first three days of the HCG diet because it takes three days for the hCG to fully enter your system and begin circulating your abnormal fat stores.  By filling your fat reserves with 'gorging' it helps to prevent hunger during the first three days of the protocol.

The following foods are recommended during the three days of 'gorging':
Whole milk dairy products, pastries, nuts, oils, avocados and other high fat foods.

Pickles are nearly calorie free and they are permitted on the diet.  So are cucumbers as well. However, pickles contain large amounts of sodium which can increase water retention and body weight so they are not really recommended.

The following foods are permitted on the hCG diet program:

Drink at least 2 quarts of water each day. Unlimited tea, and black coffee are also permitted. According to Dr. Simeons, only Stevia or saccarin should be used for sweeteners.

In addition to the above, the 500 calories consumed each day are made up of the following:

Breakfast: 1 grisini or fat free melba toast and choice of 1 fruit (such as apple, orange, 1/2 grapefruit, or a few strawberries)

Lunch and Dinner: 100 grams of very low fat beef, veal, chicken, white fish, lobster, or shrimp, and one of the following vegetables - onion, tomato, celery, cucumber, spinach, or green lettuce

Snack: 1 grisini or fat free melba toast and choice of 1 fruit as above

It is best to vary your fruit along with your vegetable and protein sources daily, rather than just eating the same foods at each meal or each day.

Fat burning rather then just losing muscle: On the hCG protocol you will notice how your body reshapes and how quickly the flabby areas disappear. You can also test your urine with KETOSTIX and ALBUSTIX to prove to yourself that it is fat that is being lost and not muscle. In addition,, this is a good way to confirm the potency of your hCG.

While one thinks they might starve on 500 calories a day, no matter your size or weight, the 500 calories consumed from food is actually enough because you will be utilizing stored fat for energy. The majority of individuals on this diet will lose about 1 pound of fat per day. A pound of fat = 3500 calories, so that in addition to the 500 calories of food you consume = 4000 calories. This is why most people on this diet do not experience hunger and some even have trouble eating the 500 calories each day.

Regarding cosmetics or moisturizers that are pernitted during the hCG treatment, the basic rule is that eye pencils and lipsticks are the only cosmetics recommended. Mineral oil may be used as a moisturizer although do not use it for cooking. If you use other creams, lotions or cosmetics containing fat, especially animal or food derived fats, they should be avoided at all costs while on this diet.

Shampoos and conditioners may be used while on the diet as long as you rinse them out and do not rub them into the scalp.

If you are applying baby lotion to children this can have a small effect, so it is suggested that you wear gloves while applying.

Crest White Strips may be used to whiten my teeth while on the program.

Regarding deodorants, Crystal deodorant is recommended. If it is not available in your local grocery store you should be able to find it in a health food store.

You cannot color hair on the hCG program.
